  ROUTES RITES  RITUALS: INHABITING UNCERTAINTY

2022- ongoing

  participatory project supported by
Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research (NRW)

INHABITING UNCERTAINTY is an attempt to recast big uncertainty as openness. It departs from the premise that we have stumbled from an individualistic constellation of risk-takers into an ‘uncertainty society’ that can barely grasp its own contingency. Addressing uncertainty in terms of both content and medium, the project tries to tame it by means of a free-floating multimedia narrative. It explores how people who have experienced pandemics, wars and global warming deal with their private uncertainties, adapt to changing circumstances and reinterpret their old routines. The resulting artworks will mimic these human efforts through open-ended structures, unpredictable outcomes and diffuse authorship, relying on changing environments in taking specific shapes or forming new constellations.

The project is a collaboration with the Satzyk family (Odessa, UA-Bieledeld, DE), the Center for Uncertainty Studies (Bielefeld University) and the writer David Wagner (Berlin, DE).
